John Wong studied at the Technical University of Delft where he gained a masters degree (Civil Engineering - specialisation building physics). He also received his MSc degree in Business Administration at the RSM Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

After his studies he started his career at ABN Bank in the Netherlands. In the Planning and Control department (a department advising at board level), he specialised in strategy and organisational consultancy. His next move was to the Special Credits Department of ABN Bank, where he dealt with companies with financial problems and in particular to reduce the risks for the bank and to restructure debt facilities. Clients were medium sized to large listed corporations. Another responsibility was to provide advice requested by loan departments in respect of operations and additional investments and financing of clients.

In 1992 he joined the private equity business at ABN AMRO in Amsterdam. Here John focused on equity and mezzanines in small and medium sized companies in all industry sectors. Gradually the focus moved more towards information technology. When in 2000 the private equity sections were grouped to ABN AMRO Capital, John became part of the IT team investing in promising IT companies in western Europe. His activities concentrated on managing and realising exits of portfolio companies and he has held several board positions.
Since 2006, after he has resigned from ABN AMRO Bank N.V., he is an independent advisor to a number of private equity funds. He is holding some board positions abroad.
